Photographer Andrew Phelps recently spent several months documenting the planning, production, and completion of three exciting public art projects in Austria. The Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG) commissioned three artists——Steve Mathewson, Fritz Panzer, and Sonia Leimer——to create large-scale installations for a newly expanded technology and engineering college.
The projects, including a gigantic ceiling mural 15 meters off the ground, a hanging wire staircase, and a massive outdoor concrete viewing platform, mark the HTBLVA Salzburg campus as a true
urban landmark. The resulting photo essay demonstrates Andrew's unique way of combining still-life, portrait, and architectural photography into a comprehensive, engaging narrative.
Andrew’s photography is featured throughout the project magazine, Kunststudium——available online or as a print edition. Additional architectural photographs by Andrew accompany each art project’s description on the BIG Art website.
